Counselling is a professional practice which takes place between a client and someone who is trained. Counselling provides a non judgemental space to talk in which no advice is offered. It is an opportunity to discuss difficulties or talk through problems with someone who offers a caring and acceptant environment.
What is my theory base?
I am a counsellor working within the Person Centred Approach which was pioneered by Carl Rogers in the 1950’s. Rogers believed that each person has the capacity for self understanding and emotional and psychological healing. In an environment of acceptance, empathy and genuineness that person can discover how to move forward in their own life. Person Centred counselling is non directive, non interpretative and works on the basis of a relationship where trust can be built and the core conditions of acceptance, empathy and genuineness can be provided for the client. This relationship is equal and endeavours to empower the client.
What I can offer
I can offer 1 hour Counselling sessions on a weekly basis. This may be for a few sessions or on a longer term basis if required. For those clients interested in longer term counselling I can offer 6 sessions initially and review the work on the 6th session with a view to continuing work together for longer.
